Update:
Sadly this event is cancelled due to weather 🙁
Let’s Go Fly a Kite
Can you feel it?
Spring is in the air.
And when spring is in the air, so are kites. Especially all the kites at the Kite and Pinata Festival going on at Nathanael Greene Park.
It’s such an awesome experience to be a part of!!!
The What
The Kite and Pinata Festival is a celebration of Springfield’s sister cities of Isesaki, Japan and Tlaquepaque, Mexico.
There’s so much to do!
Obviously, there will be kite flying. You can either bring your own kite or pay $5 at the kite booth for a kite making kit.
And as the name implies, there will be pinatas. This year, there won’t be any pinata busting at the event. But you can still buy a $5 pinata kit that you can make there and then take it home to fill up and bust.
Along with the kite flying and pinata making there will also be a mini market of Japanese and Mexican drinks, snacks, and trinkets.
As much fun as it might be to belt out “Let’s Go Fly A Kite” while you’re colorful kite soars above you, resist the urge. As beautiful as your rendition might be, you won’t want to drown out all of the live performances that will be going on throughout the festival.
Once you’re done flying your kite, up to the highest heights (I didn’t say you couldn’t sing it right now) head on over to the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden. Admission to the stroll garden will be freeeeeee on festival day from 10am to 7pm!
The Where
The main event will be held at the great lawn of Nathanael Greene Park at 2400 S Scenic Avenue in Springfield, MO.
If you’ve never been to this park (you’re missing out), you’ll need to follow the signs around to the back of the park to find the Japanese Stroll Garden.
The great lawn where most of the action will be taking is a bit easier to find as you just turn right once you enter the main roadway into the park.
The When
This beautiful festival is held every year!
This year’s event will be on April 10th from 11am-4pm.
See you at the park!
