5 Reasons Galloway Creek Greenway is THE BEST Trail in Springfield, Mo

 March 31, 2021

By  Carla Broderick

There are so many beautiful trails to explore in 417 land!

When the weather is nice, one of my absolute favorite trails to hit is Galloway Creek Greenway

And I don’t think I’m the only one to think that since Galloway Creek Greenway is the first trail in Missouri to be designated a National Recreation Trail.

Impressive right?

I’m sure you have (or will have) your own reasons for loving the gorgeous miles of the Greenway trail.

Here are mine:

The Contrast of Scenery

You get a bit of everything while you’re strolling, or rolling, along the Galloway Creek Greenway.

Being surrounded by nature and forgetting you’re in the middle of the city? Check

Urban feel as you follow the trail under and over major roads and railways? You got it.

A beautiful park with a cave, pond, and waterfall? Yup

Passing right by the pet cemetery for all you weirdos out there?  Absolutely.

Gorgeous view of the James River? Right on this trail.

What more could you want?

Sequiota Park

Galloway trail runs right by the lovely Sequiota Park.

Take a quick pit stop and enjoy the multiple playgrounds, the huge rocks leading to the cave, the rolling stream, and the peaceful little waterfalls.

And if you’re lucky, you might even get to visit with the geese that frequent the pond in the center of the park.

Galloway Village

Just a few minutes down the trail from the park lies a historic spot that used to be a popular stop on the Gulf Line Railway in the late 1800s.

Even though the area has evolved over the years, Galloway Village still remains a sought-after area to visit.

You’ll be immersed in Springfield’s midwestern hospitality as you peruse shops, grab a bite to eat or grab a local brew, all in Galloway Village.

If you want to take an even longer break from the trail, you can stop in at Acacia Spa for true rest or go over and get your creative juices flowing at Firehouse Pottery.

The Bridge Over James River

I mean, come on! How gorgeous is that?!?!

Paved the Whole Way

Ok, so this might not be what everyone is looking for if you want to get that adventurous off-the-beaten-path feel.

But having five miles of paved trail is great for when you just want a relaxing bike or walk to enjoy all around you.

It makes for smooth riding and easy strollin

Get Out There

Have I convinced you yet?

Even if you’re not on board with it being the best greenway of Springfield, I’m sure you can at least agree it’s pretty friggin awesome

Check out the map of the greenway here and then get out there and enjoy!
